The Gala will include two award presentations including the 4th Annual “Bruce Allen / Sam Feldman Legend Award”, recognizing the accomplishments of behind-the-scenes industry professionals.

 

 

Randy Bachman

Randy Bachman has played an integral role in the evolution and growth of the Canadian Music industry and continues to serve as both an inspiration and impetus for others to succeed. Randy Bachman Born in Canada, Randy Bachman has become a legendary figure in the rock and roll world through his talents as a guitarist, songwriter, performer and producer. He has earned over 120 gold and platinum album/singles awards around the world for performing and producing. His song writing has garnered him the coveted #1 spot on radio play lists in over 20 countries and he has amassed over 40 million records sold.

His songs have been recorded by numerous other artists and placed in dozens of television, movie and commercial soundtracks. His music has provided a veritable soundtrack of the last thirty years of popular music.

 

John Vrtacic Memorial Award

JOHN VRTACIC March 27, 1948 – August 19, 2009

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our loving father, grandfather, and husband. He will be greatly missed by Alice, his wife of 28 years. He also leaves behind his children: Sonya, Nadia, and Sean, and grandchildren Isabelle and Aiden. John was born in Zagreb, Croatia, an only child, and has been living and working in North Vancouver, BC for the past 30 years. John was an accomplished Audio and Acoustic Technician, and spent many years supporting the music, film and game sound recording industry across Canada and the United States. John was the Technical Director of Little Mountain Studios. After which he chose to proudly manage his own consulting business, Vrtacic Design and Electro-Acoustics. His dedicated contribution to the Vancouver music industry will be greatly missed; it was both his career and his passion. John also enjoyed caring for his home and yard, an avid do-it-yourself enthusiast, his hobbies also included carpentry, restoration and invention of audio equipment.

BIO

John Vrtacic is technical director of Vrtacic Design. He has been involved in the development of recording studios for over 30 years. During this time he has worked with the top recording studios and producers in Canada and the USA. John was the technical director of the famous Little Mountain Sound Studios. He is also technical director of Armoury Studio and Warehouse Studios in Vancouver, Canada. In addition to acoustical designs, he also designs custom audio equipment for producers and recording engineers. Recently finishing the "Vrtacic Monitor", a unique, very loud, large studio monitor speaker, that was purchased by the prestigious Armoury Studios.

 

 

Charlie Richmond

Charlie Richmond is an entrepreneur and inventor born January 5, 1950. He was instrumental in the early development of sound design in the 1960s and 1970s. He founded a company in 1972 which continues to be responsible for major innovations and a patent in that field. He was also instrumental in the design of a major recording studio which he later owned. He was active in the area of film sound and was the USITT's first Sound Design Commissioner and first sound design and show control editor for their publication Theatre Design & Technology and was recognized by that organization for his work. He lead the group that created the MIDI Show Control standard in 1990.

In 2007 he developed virtual sound system software for live entertainment and many other low latency applications. This Windows audio engine software, called SoundMan-Server, is the basis for many third party applications whose needs exceed the capabilities of the native sound drivers and functionality found within general purpose operating systems. The first commercial application of this now operates the Waterworld-A Live Sea War Spectacular attraction at Universal Studios Hollywood.
